A Canorous Quintet
A Canorous Quintet is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in 1991 under the name “A Canorous Quartet.” They changed their name to A Canorous Quintet in 1993 to reflect their expanded lineup. The group, founded by Fredrik Andersson, Mårten Hansen, and Linus Nirbrant, became known for its dark, melancholic style that blends elements of death and black metal.
Their discography includes the *As Tears* EP (1994), and two full-length albums: *Silence of the World Beyond* (1996) and *The Only Pure Hate* (1998). They initially disbanded in 1999, with members going on to form or join other projects like This Ending and Amon Amarth. In 2016, the band reformed and released a remastered version of *The Only Pure Hate* in 2018, titled *The Only Pure Hate – MMXVIII*.
Their music is known for its intense, melodic structure, with standout tracks like “The Orchid’s Sleep,” “Spellbound,” and the three-part “Crystal” trilogy. Although they did not gain the same level of fame as some of their contemporaries, A Canorous Quintet is considered an influential name in the Swedish melodic death metal scene.
