A Breath Before Surfacing

A Breath Before Surfacing was a deathcore band from Tucson, Arizona, formed in 2006. Known for their aggressive and technical style, their music often explored themes such as gore, misanthropy, anger, and class hate. The band gained recognition in the Arizona metal scene and shared the stage with other prominent bands like Job for a Cowboy.

Their discography includes the demo *Demo 2007* and their only full-length album, *Death Is Swallowed in Victory* (2008), released through Mediaskare Records. This album featured tracks like “Ray Road” and “Just What the Monster Ordered,” combining heavy breakdowns with chaotic riffs and guttural vocals.

The lineup consisted of Dustin Curtis on vocals, Scott Whisenant on guitars, Trevor Gunning on drums, and Kiel Gunning on bass. The band unfortunately went dormant in early 2009 due to financial difficulties and split up shortly after, leaving a brief but impactful legacy in the deathcore community.
