…And Oceans is a Finnish symphonic and industrial black metal band that was originally formed in 1989 under the name Festerday. They began as a death metal band but shifted towards a symphonic black metal style when they changed their name to …And Oceans in 1995. Their early work, such as the debut album *The Dynamic Gallery of Thoughts* (1998), showcased a traditional symphonic black metal sound.
Over the years, the band incorporated electronic and industrial elements, which became prominent on later releases like *A.M.G.O.D.* (2001) and *Cypher* (2002). After a decade of existence as …And Oceans, the band changed their name to Havoc Unit in 2005, reflecting their shift towards a more industrial-oriented sound. However, in 2020, the band reformed under their original name and released *Cosmic World Mother*, marking a return to their black metal roots with a modern touch.
Their most recent album, *As In Gardens, So In Tombs*, released in 2023, continues to blend symphonic and melodic elements with black metal, presenting a grand and more melodic sound. The current lineup features Mathias Lillmåns on vocals, Timo Kontio and Teemu Saari on guitars, Pyry Hanski on bass, Kauko Kuusisalo on drums, and Antti Simonen on keyboards.
Throughout their career, …And Oceans has been praised for their ability to evolve their sound while retaining the atmospheric and thematic depth of their early works, making them a unique presence in the Scandinavian metal scene.
