Nevermind not only brought to light the grunge scene that revolved around the group, but also became the soundtrack for a generation of young Americans critical of their country’s war policies, as well as a society in which they seemed not having spaces, voice and much less hope. That led to “maladjustment, self-esteem issues, loneliness, misunderstanding, apathy, and nihilism,” as Michael Azerrad points out in the biography Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana. However, regardless of any conclusion, Nirvana won in the midst of that anger thanks to some impossible to answer songs. Nevermind, which would sell 10 million copies and in 1992 manage to unseat Michael Jackson’s Dangerous from number one, turned the members of the trio (perhaps against his will) into world stars. But above all in a large-scale amplification of music as a channel of relief.
